Max Theo Kehl
Max Theo Kehl is a Munich based artist who's exquisite figure drawings strike an extraordinary balance between seeming truly ancient, yet poignantly contemporary; as if they have always existed, whilst appearing completely fresh to the eye. With figures emerging from the paper in an almost ghostly manner, Max's work could be compared to a modern day Leonardo Di Vinci.
Max was born in Munich in 1991, where he now still lives & works. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich from 2012 – 2019, where he graduated with a Diploma under professor Olaf Metzel.
The main focus of Max’s artistic work is the representation of the human face and nature within the traditional media of drawing, printmaking and painting. His style, that he describes as a ‘‘minimalistic realism“ is characterised by a skilful interplay of subtle line work and elaboration which helps the overall picture to achieve a bold balance of lightness and vivid expression.
As well as many solo and group shows with leading contemporary art galleries, Max has most recently been working in collaboration with the Opera Festival Erl to design the posters for the their Winter Program 2020/2021.
